In Islam today Sufism has become a controversial topic, just as mysticism is in Christian circles. At the same time Sufism is the one area of Islam westerners can feel comfortable with: it’s more liberal outlook is a welcome relief from talk of Islam fundamentalism. 

Politics aside, Sufism is a great source of insight into the human condition.
